Dear Georgetown University Staff and AAPs,
We are excited to announce the creation of a University Staff Ombuds (USO) Office, and to share that we are now seeking applicants for the Staff Ombuds position.
The Staff Ombuds will serve as a neutral trusted resource and confidential vehicle for informal resolution of concerns of the staff/AAP community, operating under the principles of “confidentiality, impartiality, informality and independence.” In keeping with Georgetown University’s Catholic, Jesuit values of integrity, respect and diversity, the Staff Ombuds will support and promote an inclusive and equitable campus community. This role will report to the Chief Operating Officer.
The desire to create a USO was born out of recommendations from the Staff/AAP Advisory Council and Professional Conduct Working Group to establish a confidential, objective resource to discuss staff’s experiences and any questions or concerns about university processes. The university has recently established Ombuds offices to support the student and faculty communities that have already proved to be valuable resources.
It is not the role of the Staff Ombuds to advocate for members of the campus community, nor will this role serve as a substitute for formal disputes or concerns otherwise addressed by the Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity and Affirmative Action (IDEAA) or Human Resources.
We ask for your assistance in helping to identify a qualified and mission-oriented candidate by sharing the position description with your networks, and look forward to updating you on the search process and how you can take advantage of this new resource.
Sincerely,
David Green
