Georgetown University joins the nation in commemorating Women’s History Month this March, Black Women Appreciation Day on March 1 and International Women’s Day on March 8. Especially during this month, we celebrate the many contributions of our women students, faculty and staff to our university community and society at large. We also take time to recognize and support the broad range of teaching, scholarship and advocacy at Georgetown on women’s history, equality and empowerment.
We invite you to learn more about women’s history at Georgetown and engage in events and opportunities recognizing Women’s History Month.
Georgetown students lead nearly 20 gender-focused and women’s affinity organizations and organize major convenings such as the BRAVE Summit, focused on Black women’s empowerment. Many of these student efforts are supported by the Women’s Center, which has led educational programming and gender equity initiatives for more than 30 years.
Georgetown faculty lead a range of departmental and interdisciplinary efforts to advance teaching, scholarship and community on women’s history and issues, including the Women’s and Gender Studies Program, Gender+ Justice Initiative, Women’s Leadership Institute (MSB), Institute for Women, Peace and Security (SFS) and Georgetown Women in Medicine (GWIM). This year, the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences is celebrating 80 years of women formally being admitted to study in our graduate programs.
Georgetown employees lead the Georgetown Women’s Alliance (GWA), a volunteer organization that supports professional development and gender equity, including a staff mentorship program, student fellowship program, events and more.Thank you for joining us in this important monthlong celebration and recognition, and we hope that you will take some time to explore the landing page and events overview.
