Bruno Palier: Borders, Peripheries, and Populism
France’s deindustrializing since the 1970s has raised the questions of how relations of domination have been affected and how jobs are being restructured. Prof. Palier analyzes the emergence of three distinct classes within our post-industrial economy: the educated middle and upper classes, the threatened middle classes and the new proletariat of service to others. He argues that it is the lower middle class that turns more and more towards Populist Radical Right Parties in France as elsewhere in Europe.
