Title: Homecoming Weekend (Sept. 29 – Oct. 1)

Dear Students,

This weekend we will celebrate Homecoming and welcome generations of Hoyas and their families back to the Hilltop for a range of exciting events. I hope that you will attend and enjoy these events and play an active role in making our campus a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.

With thousands of additional guests and visitors on campus and in the neighborhood, there will be additional daytime and evening monitoring of our campus and neighborhood. It is important that we support our athletes, our pride in being Hoyas and the community that we build together. I also need to ensure that our joy in community is safe and inclusive of the needs of all who call Georgetown home. Please note that the additional measures described below are done with that intention in mind.  I hope you will join me in being champions (both on and off the field) of our values.

Please note several important reminders and requests:

  • Students must follow all aspects of the Code of Student Conduct (Code) at all times, and students are responsible for the actions of their guests. Violations of the Code, both on and off campus, will be taken seriously. Failure to comply with a directive of a university official is a violation of the Code. If an individual at your residence or property causes harm to another person or property, or otherwise violates the Code, you will be held responsible, whether or not you invited the guest.
  • Noise and disruptive behavior are violations of the Code. University policy states: “Excessive sound which infringes upon the community’s right to reasonable peace and quiet is prohibited at all times.” For off-campus incidents, if sound can be heard beyond a property line at any time of the day, it is probably too noisy and disturbing to the community. Off-campus noise violations are automatically considered “Disorderly Conduct” under the Code. Students who are found responsible for violating the Code will be subject to disciplinary sanctions, and repeated violations may result in losing the opportunity to live off campus.
  • Village A rooftops and Alumni Square will be monitored by university and security staff. To ensure fire safety at all times, there will be designated security monitoring Village A and Alumni Square and enforced capacity limitations, coordinated by GUPD and Residential Living. Village A and Alumni Square residents will be able to access their residences normally.
  • Open containers and consumption of alcohol in unauthorized public spaces is prohibited. Please note that, in addition to university policy violations, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) can issue a field arrest citation for possession of an open container of alcohol.
  • Please do not purchase any beverages in glass bottles, as they can be dangerous when discarded or broken. Glass bottles may be confiscated.
  • Please be aware of your surroundings and take advantage of safety resources like the LiveSafe mobile app, Safe Rides and Late Night Shuttles to stay safe and secure this weekend.

Thank you for helping to welcome home our Hoya community and represent the university well in our neighborhood.

Hoya Saxa!
