Title: Spring Break Reminders: Airport Shuttles, Residence Halls, Campus Operations

Dear Students,

Spring break begins after the conclusion of classes on Friday, March 1, with classes resuming on Monday, March 11, 2024. Please review the following important reminders and opportunities related to spring break.

Spring Break Transportation Options

Airport shuttles will be offered to Reagan National Airport (DCA) from the Georgetown Bus Turnaround on Friday, March 1. Return shuttles are offered on Sunday, March 10, 2024. Advance signup is not required.

  • Reagan National Airport (DCA) Schedule
  • Shuttles will not be offered to Dulles International Airport (IAD), but the GUTS bus drops off at Rosslyn Metro station, where students can take the Silver line to IAD.

There are also GUTS-to-public transit options to DCA, IAD and Union Station. Please visit OTM’s website for detailed schedules, including hours of operation:

On- and Off-Campus Housing

Residence halls, apartments and townhouses do not close for spring break. The Harbin 104 Key room will operate during its normal hours of 8 a.m. – 10 p.m., Monday – Sunday.

If you and your roommates will not be on campus over spring break, please take the following steps to appropriately prepare your space while you’re away:

  • Prevent pest and rodent issues by taking out all trash and recycling, putting all food in airtight containers, wiping down surfaces and sweeping/vacuuming.
  • Clean personal refrigerators and dispose of perishable food that may spoil.
  • Turn the heater in your space to medium temperature or 60°.
  • Unplug all electronic devices.
  • Take all valuable and necessary items with you, such as your passport, photo ID, cash, medications, laptops, etc.
  • Turn off all lights.
  • Close and lock all windows and doors, including the deadbolt on the primary entrance to your space.

Campus Operations

Public Health Reminders

  • COVID-19, flu and other respiratory illnesses are still circulating in many places. If you become sick with a communicable illness while traveling, avoid exposing others by waiting until you’re recovered to travel on planes, trains, or buses. If you test positive for COVID-19, follow the guidance for isolation in your location. The CDC COVID-19 guidance is to avoid travel on public transportation until you have completed isolation.
  • Please be aware that there is an increase in measles cases globally and in the United States. One popular spring break destination, Broward County, Florida, has issued a measles health advisory. The best protection against measles is immunization with the MMR vaccine. If you are exposed or develop any symptoms – a rash that begins on the head and neck is a prominent feature, but is usually preceded by non-specific symptoms often including high fever, cough, runny nose, red or watery eyes – reach out to the Student Health Center or your health care provider immediately.
  • If you are traveling internationally, please review the CDC website for your destination to check for any health advisories so that you can take the appropriate precautions.
  • If you have any questions or concerns, or would like to discuss vaccination or destination-specific guidance, please contact the Public Health team at carenavigators@georgetown.edu. Before you depart, the Student Health Center also offers Travel Health visits online or in person so that a provider can review your records and offer you any vaccinations or prophylactic medicines as needed. If upon your return you develop any concerning symptoms, particularly a fever, please make an appointment with the Student Health Center by calling 202-687-2200.
