The Global Food Value Chain: Supply Challenges & the Impact of Climate Change and Conflict
The Baratta Center for Global Business at Georgetown University is convening a roundtable discussion on on Monday, June 17, 2024 at the University Club in New York City . The roundtable will explore the impact of climate change and conflict on the global food supply. Droughts, floods, and extreme temperatures disrupt agricultural production, leading to crop failures, food shortages, and associated food price inflation. Additionally, conflicts exacerbate these challenges by displacing populations, disrupting markets, and damaging infrastructure essential for food distribution.
The panel will address questions such as:
- Whether we are able to generate enough food to feed the world’s population.
- How climate change will affect the availability of food.
- How conflict and other geopolitical events are impacting food security and global trade in food.
- What new technologies might better ensure a resilient and sustainable agricultural supply chain.
