ECo Talks: Urban Ecology, Systems Thinking, and Problem Solving in Baltimore with Morgan Grove
Morgan Grove, Research Scientist for the USDA Forest Service, will present his talk, “Urban Ecology, Systems Thinking, and Problem Solving in Baltimore,” as part of the ECo Talks series produced by the Earth Commons.
About the Speaker: Morgan Grove joined the USDA Forest Service in 1996 and is a social scientist and Team Leader for the USDA Forest Service’s Baltimore Urban Field Station. Morgan has been a Co-Principal Investigator of the National Science Foundation’s Long Term Ecological Research Project, the Baltimore Ecosystem Study (BES), since its beginning in 1997. He is a lecturer at the Yale School of the Environment (YSE), where he teaches urban ecology.
About the Talk: Morgan is presenting on Urban Ecology, Systems Thinking, and Problem-Solving in Baltimore. His work focuses on the interactions between ecological, societal, and economic factors, applying science to improve urban health, prosperity, and environments. He enjoys discovering how trees and landscapes can enhance cities and using these insights to inform sustainable policies and designs.One of his current projects involves the reuse of street trees and trees from urban parks to create circular economies in cities. With over 180 published articles and two books, Morgan excels at connecting policymakers, managers, and scientists to create greener, more sustainable cities.
