Omar Tesdell, associate professor in the Department of Geography at Birzeit University in Palestine, will present his talk, “Regeneration of Tree Crops in Palestine: Adaptation, Climate, History,” as part of the ECo Talks series produced by the Earth Commons.
About the Speaker:
Omar Tesdell, Ph.D., is associate professor in the Department of Geography at Birzeit University in Palestine. His research works to make more climate-adapted, resilient, and just agricultural landscapes. He holds a Ph.D. in Geography and Sustainable Agriculture from the University of Minnesota and was a postdoctoral fellow at Columbia University in New York.
About the Talk: Olive tree culture is one of the great survivors in Palestine. The olive is the only crop of food or economic significance remaining in Palestine today. This talk will explore the complex reasons for Palestinian olive culture’s persistence and its continuing role in underpinning communities during crisis.
