WHAT: What is Vladimir Putin’s ultimate goal? Why is Ukraine such a sensitive subject for Russia? How bad is corruption in Russia? Are there any free media in Russia? Are Western sanctions working?
Many journalists must report on issues like this – on deadline. But Russia is a complex subject.
With funding support from the Carnegie Corporation of New York, Georgetown University’s Center for Eurasian, Russian and East European Studies will host the first of three “Journalist Boot Camps” – fast-paced, up-to-the-minute background briefings, providing a valuable resource for journalists reporting on Russia as it intersects with Ukraine, Syria, Iran, North Korea and the 2020 U.S. election. Discussions will cover a range of topics, including the personal history of Vladimir Putin, Russia’s national security strategy, the role of energy in the Russian economy and other key issues.
The Journalist Boot Camps are designed for on-air reporters, producers, writers and researchers. There is no cost. Sessions include light breakfast and lunch.
WHO: These unique background briefings will be led by Jill Dougherty, CNN’s former Moscow Bureau Chief, Centennial Fellow and instructor at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, along with experts from Georgetown University, former ambassadors to the region, and former top government officials.
The first Journalist Boot Camp takes place:

WHERE: Intercultural Center (ICC) Room 462
