Thirty-four years later and I still treasure my time at Georgetown and count myself blessed to having been given not just an excellent medical education, but the added benefit of the philosophy of “cura personalis.” It may not have been given that name in 1984, but the philosophy pervaded every patient encounter. Even today, when I work with a Georgetown alum, I recognize that little something extra in the kindness and caring they show patients and their families. Welcome to the wonderful world of clinical practice. There may be times when it all seems a little overwhelming, but it is at those times when you can look back at what brought you into this noble profession in the first place and the privilege it is to help people when they need it most and the fulfillment attached to that. Good luck and Godspeed.
