Georgetown’s Staff/AAP Advisory Council elects Peter Luger as its first president and holds its first open meeting.

With its first president elected and its first open meeting convened, Georgetown’s Staff/AAP Advisory Council is moving forward with its mission to be a voice for a large segment of the university’s workforce, council leadership says.
The council’s 31 members officially took office on July 1 and last month elected Peter Luger, chief of staff to the senior vice president of research, as its first president.
Luger says he’s glad to lead the council, and was pleased to see the large number of employees who filled Lohrfink Auditorium on Feb. 22 for the council’s first open meeting.
“We had a large and enthusiastic turnout for the town hall,” Luger says.
Christopher Augostini, senior vice president of operations and chief operating officer, attended the meeting to hear suggestions and concerns from the university’s community of staff and academic and administrative professionals (AAPs).
“We appreciate [his] willingness to have an open and frank conversation and to hear from employees about several topics,” Luger says. “We will be providing a summary to university leadership of all of the ideas we’ve heard over the last few weeks.”
The council also elected three vice presidents to lead their respective campus caucus. They include Meghan Dimsa, Main Campus; Donna Deardorff, Medical Center; and, Tina Drake Zimmerman, Law Center. Margo Gottesman of University Services serves as secretary.
The council will elect more officers soon.
“Half of the council seats are up for election for a two-year term, beginning July 1,” Luger says. “Nominations will be accepted during the first two weeks of April.”
The seats up for election include five for Main Campus, four each for the Medical Center and University Services and two for the Law Center.
Staff and AAPs who have been employed for at least one year as of July 1 and work at least 50 percent of the time are eligible to run if they are not union members, professional librarians, temporary or casual labor, cabinet-level or senior-level executives or a member of the president’s executive committee.
