Wendy Sherman, undersecretary of state for political affairs, receives the prestigious Trainor Award for diplomacy and explores U.S. policy in the Middle East during a lecture presented by the Institute for the Study of Diplomacy.
September 17, 2014 – Georgetown’s Institute for the Study of Diplomacy (ISD) presented Wendy Sherman, undersecretary of state for political affairs, with this year’s prestigious Trainor Award for Distinction in the Conduct of Diplomacy yesterday.
Sherman explored “U.S. Policy in the Middle East: Present Course, Future Direction” during her lecture, which was webcast live last night from Lohrfink Auditorium.
Sherman has served as counselor for the State Department from 1997 to 2001, and also has served as special advisor to President Clinton and policy coordinator on North Korea.
The Trainor Award, presented annually to an outstanding American or foreigner for distinction in the conduct of diplomacy, is named for former School of Foreign Service registrar Raymond “Jit” Trainor.
ISD, founded in 1978, brings together diplomats and scholars to bridge theory and practice as they explore global problems and the changing worlds of diplomatic engagement.
