Dear Graduate Students,
Earlier this semester, the University distributed funds to students who already filed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Main Campus degree-seeking graduate students who are half-time or more and have not yet filed a FAFSA or the International Student Financial Aid Application may now apply for funds to pay for expenses related to the COVID-19 emergency.
Grants are largely funded by the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA). Students who meet the financial need criteria but who are not otherwise eligible for federal CRRSAA funds (e.g., international students and DACA recipients) will receive an analogous grant funded by the University. These grants are not loans and are not expected to be paid back. Please note the Law Center and the School of Medicine are managing separate funds for law and medical students.
To apply for funds:
- File your FAFSA/International Student Financial Aid Application by Sunday, March 21.
- Submit the Georgetown application for funding by Sunday, March 21.
Please refer to the How to Apply for Graduate Financial Aid page for more information on how to file a FAFSA. International graduate students should complete the International Student Financial Aid Application, following the instructions on the Office of Student Financial Services website, and submit to the Office of Student Financial Services via BOX.
To provide grants to as many students as possible, grant amounts will vary between $250 to $1,000 based on financial need, as determined by a student’s FAFSA filing or International Student Financial Aid Application. Applicants will receive notification on the status of their grant applications in early April.
For students with the greatest need, additional funds will be available through a supplemental application process; further information will be forthcoming in a separate communication.
As we all adapt to the new and ongoing stresses of the pandemic, we hope that you continue to find support in the Georgetown community. Please know we are thinking of you and here for you.
Sincerely,
Alexander Sens
