Title: Fall-ing in Love with Georgetown: Five Things to Do this Fall

Being from New England, fall has always been my favorite season because my family and I have traditions of going to apple orchards, pumpkin patches, haunted houses, and nature walks to see the colorful foliage. I was a bit nervous that DC would not offer me many of these same opportunities, but the good news is that there are many fun fall spots in the DC area.

Homestead Farm

This Apple Orchard is located in Poolesville, MD, which is only about a 20-30 minute ride from campus, so you can rent a zip car with some friends or take the red line on the metro to the last stop in Maryland and Uber from there. They serve apple cider and have hay rides on the weekends.

Larriland Farm

This orchard offers apple-picking and a pumpkin patch but it also offers corn mazes! If you love walking through corn mazes during Halloween season, they are open Tuesday through Sunday at Larriland which is located in Woodbine, MD (a suburb of DC).

The Farmer’s Market

Every Wednesday at Georgetown University in Red Square, there is our very own farmer’s market! So if you do not feel like making the day trip to an orchard off campus, you can get farm-fresh apples, peaches, cider, and vegetables here.

Butler’s Orchard

Also in Germantown, Maryland, Butler’s Orchard offers an entire fall festival every weekend in October from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This includes pick-your-own-pumpkins, hay rides and mazes, crafts, food, and family activities.

Fields of Fear

For those of you that are thrill-seeking, there are numerous haunted houses and haunted trails in the DMV. Cox Farms’ Fields of Fear in Centreville, VA is a short distance from the last stop on the orange line of the Metro and it is a corn maize that features zombies, aliens, and more.
