Title: Student Move-In Impacts to Commuting and Traffic (August 18-21)

Dear Members of the Georgetown University Community,

New undergraduate move-in is scheduled for Thursday, August 18 – Friday, August 19 and returning student move-in is scheduled for Sunday, August 21, 2022.

With thousands of students and their families arriving on Main Campus, move-in operations significantly impact parking, road traffic and foot traffic. We ask that you please consider the following to facilitate the best student move-in experience and to avoid serious disruptions to your workday:

  • Telework for parking pass holders (if possible): If you are a parking pass holder who typically works on the Main Campus or at the Medical Center and are not involved in move-in operations, please consult with your supervisor in order to telework on these days, if possible.
  • Use GUTS or Public Transportation: If you need to come to campus, please use GUTS or public transportation instead of parking on or near campus between Thursday, August 19 and Sunday, August 21.

Note that Canal Road will be closed to non-move-in and non-GUTS traffic from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 18, and Friday, August 19.

Visit transportation.georgetown.edu for information on additional ways to travel to and from campus.

Thank you again for your help in making move-in a smooth process for our new and returning students and their families.

 Sincerely,

Lori Baldwin,
Vice President, Planning, Facilities Management and Corporate Partnerships
