Dear Community Members,
Please note that public notices have been posted in the Reiss Science Building about planned asbestos-abatement work during construction on the 4th floor. Asbestos-abatement work is currently scheduled to begin in late October.
This notification is being provided pursuant to Title 20 DCMR “Control of Asbestos,” Section 800.9, requiring the building owner to notify occupants of impending asbestos abatement.
This work will take place within a secure and contained tented area, and will not impact the operations or health of staff, students or faculty in the Reiss building. Air quality is regularly monitored both inside the tented work space and in adjacent building spaces to ensure a safe environment, with reports provided to the DC Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE).
All work will be performed in accordance with the health and safety requirements as described by OSHA, EPA and the District of Columbia. The DOEE website includes facts and FAQ on asbestos and asbestos removal.
We are scheduling work for evening hours to avoid potential noise disruptions and will provide an update on the dates and time closer to the planned start.
This work is part of a project to renovate the 4th floor of the Reiss Science Building that is expected to be complete in May 2023.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact the Project Manager Alexis Hersh at ah1744@georgetown.edu. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Sincerely,
Capital Projects Team
