A Conversation with National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan
Jake Sullivan, National Security Advisor to President Joe Biden, will discuss the administration’s first National Security Strategy in a speech on Wednesday, October 12, from 2:00 – 3:00 pm at Georgetown University. After his remarks, Sullivan will participate in a moderated conversation with Meghan O’Sullivan. This event is co-hosted by Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service (SFS) and the Center for a New American Security.
Speakers
Sullivan formerly served as Deputy Assistant to the President and National Security Advisor to then-Vice President Joe Biden in the Obama-Biden administration. He previously served as Director of the Policy Planning Staff at the U.S. Department of State and as Deputy Chief of Staff to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. He holds a B.A. in political science and international studies from Yale College; a M.Phil in International Relations from Oxford, where he was a Rhodes Scholar; and a J.D. from Yale Law School.
Meghan L. O’Sullivan is the Jeane Kirkpatrick Professor of International Affairs at Harvard University’s Kennedy School. She is a Partner at Macro Advisory Partners, where she is the co-lead of its Energy Transition Practice. Meghan is also the North America chair of the Trilateral Commission. Meghan has extensive experience in policy formulation and in negotiation, including serving as special assistant to President George W. Bush and Deputy National Security Advisor for Iraq and Afghanistan and Vice Chair of the 2013 All Party Talks in Northern Ireland. She is currently a member of Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s Foreign Affairs Policy Board. Meghan is also on the board of Raytheon Technologies and the Council on Foreign Relations. She is also a member of the International Advisory Group for the British law firm Linklaters, and a frequent writer on energy, climate, and foreign policy. She is a trustee of the International Crisis Group and a member of the board of The Mission Continues, a non-profit organization to help veterans. She is also on the advisory committee for the Women’s Initiative at the George W. Bush Institute as well as Columbia University’s Center for Global Energy Policy. For her service in Iraq, Meghan was awarded the Defense Department’s highest honor for civilians and, three times, the State Department’s Superior Honor Award. Meghan was a Luce Scholar in Indonesia and a Henry Crown Fellow. She has a B.A. from Georgetown University and a masters and doctorate from Oxford University.
Entry is on a first-come, first-served basis. All Georgetown community members will be asked to present their GU ID.
Doors will open at 1:00 p.m. Please enter through the south tower of Healy Hall, near Library Walk. The line will form on the 2nd floor of Healy Hall, where tickets will be distributed.
