Book Talk: Universities on Fire with Bryan Alexander
What might higher education do about climate change? How could global warming impact colleges and universities?
Georgetown senior scholar Bryan Alexander will introduce his new book Universities on Fire.
Universities on Fire explores how higher education might engage with the climate crisis over the next 75 years. The first monograph on the topic, this book begins by forecasting the many ways a physical campus might change, from renovating buildings to generating local power to food service. Next, it considers how academia’s research into global warming could expand and also spread across many disciplines, with implications for institutional support. Teaching follows from this, with possibilities for a transformed curriculum and shifting pedagogies. Next Universities on Fire examines how climate change might appear in campus community relations, before concluding on a broader note of how higher education may participate in this enormous, civilization-spanning crisis.
