Title & Abstract:
“In good times and bad, in sickness and health: our journey into the biology of NAD”
For the past 30 years Dr(s) Claudia and Eduardo Chini worked together from training in biochemistry and physiology to their join laboratory efforts. Working thought many aspects of the biology and biochemistry of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD), their laboratory has made several seminal discoveries in the field that help our current understanding of the catabolism of NAD in mammalians and its implication for normal physiology, diseases states and the aging process. In particular, their discoveries of the role of CD38 as the amin NAD consuming enzyme and its role in age-related NAD decline fuels the idea of NAD boosting therapy via pharmacological manipulations of the NAD consuming pathways. Emerging research indicates that CD38 is implication in multiple diseases states from cardiac dysfunction, tissue fibrosis, muscular dystrophy to several diseases of aging. This talk will highlight the dynamic of developing a research career as a couple and the path through braking paradigms in science.
