Title & Abstract:
“Mitochondria on the Move: Mitochondria Transfer in Metabolic Diseases”
Over the past 20 years, it has become clear that many cell types have the ability to deliver some of their mitochondria to developmentally unrelated cells in a process that is called “mitochondria transfer.” In this presentation, I will describe the mechanisms of mitochondria transfer and demonstrate how this process regulates white adipose tissue homeostasis and brown fat function in vivo. In addition, I will describe a mitochondria transfer-based therapeutic modality called “mitochondria transplantation” that ameliorates disease progression in a mouse model of Leigh Syndrome.
