Freedom Seekers in Georgetown: D.C. Emancipation Day 2023 Transcription Event
Join The Center for the Study of Slavery and Its Legacies for lunch and an interactive event to transcribe archival runaway slave advertisements from the Georgetown neighborhood, collected from 18th and 19th-century newspapers. This process of archival transcription is foundational for research to better understand the lives of enslaved people and the world they lived in.
Participants may join in-person for lunch and to transcribe along with fellow colleagues. Please bring a laptop, if possible. We will have a small number of laptops available for use.
Detailed Schedule
11:30am – Lunch will be available for participants prior to the transcription time
