Geoeconomic Considerations: Future of the EU Agenda
Join the BMW Center for German and European Studies in welcoming Spanish Minister of Economy, Trade and Business Carlos Cuerpo for his talk Geoeconomic Considerations: Future of the EU Agenda. The event will take place in the CCAS Boardroom (ICC 141) from 12:30-1:30pm. Lunch will be provided after the event. The event will offer a virtual option, which you will be sent after you register. Please designate in the registration if you plan to attend virtually.
This event will be held in the CCAS Boardroom in the ICC building on Georgetown University’s Hilltop Campus. You must enter the CCAS suite on the second floor in room ICC 241 and then take an internal staircase to the boardroom on the 1st floor. We can make accommodations for any guests who are unable to use the stairs.

Minister of Economy, Trade and Business since December 2023, Carlos Cuerpo is responsible for the design and implementation of economic and trade policies in continental Europe’s fourth largest economy.
Before his appointment, Cuerpo held two senior positions within the ministry. Most recently, as the Secretary General of the Spanish Treasury, overseeing the country’s public debt management in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic and representing Spain in international institutions and fora, including the G20 and the International Monetary Fund. Prior to that, he was Director General of Macroeconomic Analysis, a unit in charge of economic forecasting and research.
Cuerpo began his career as a civil servant in 2008 after joining the Spanish Corps of State Economists. He also worked for the European Commission in Brussels and Spain’s Independent Authority for Fiscal Responsibility (AIRef), the national fiscal watchdog. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, a Master’s degree from the London School of Economics and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Universidad de Extremadura.
