How Presidents Deal With Crisis: A Conversation With White House Chiefs Of Staff
The Georgetown Institute of Politics and Public Service at the McCourt School of Public Policy (GU Politics) will host a panel on how presidents deal with crisis, featuring former White House Chiefs of Staff from the four most recent administrations:
- Mack McLarty (Chief of Staff to President Bill Clinton)
- Andy Card (Chief of Staff to President George W. Bush)
- Denis McDonough (MSFS ’96) (Chief of Staff to President Barack Obama)
- Mick Mulvaney (SFS ’89) (Chief of Staff to President Donald Trump)
McLarty, Card, McDonough, and Mulvaney will discuss the various elements that go into leading through a crisis: from coordinating relevant agencies, to managing national communications, to the importance of a President trying to unite the country.
This virtual panel will take place at 5:30 PM EDT on Tuesday, July 28, and will be moderated by GU Politics Executive Director Mo Elleithee. This event will feature live Q&A with Georgetown University students and will be livestreamed on GU Politics’ Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube channels.
