Bukele’s Re-election: Security, Rights, and Economics in El Salvador
CLAS invites all to attend our upcoming “LAC Moments” event on Bukele’s Re-election: Security, Rights, and Economics in El Salvador this Thursday, February 15 from 12:00-1:00pm in the CCAS Boardroom (ICC 241). Lunch will be provided!
El Salvador faces political, economic, and security challenges, with President Nayib Bukele’s administration criticized for consolidating power and eroding democratic norms, but also popular among many Salvadorans. The aggressive stance the administration has taken against gangs has reduced homicides but sparked human rights concerns. How can El Salvador achieve effective governance, economic stability, and security while protecting human rights and maintaining judicial independence?
