Meeting my Father’s Ghost: What to Do with the Colonial Statues Celebrating the Conquest of Algeria in Contemporary France?
Please join us on Wednesday Oct. 9, 2024 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in ICC 425 for a talk and a conversation with author, journalist, filmmaker, and GU alumna, Dorothée-Myriam Kellou. Dorothée-Myriam will discuss her journey to recover and tell her Algerian immigrant father’s experience in a regroupment camp during the Algerian War of Independence (1954-1962), both in a recent personal essay, Nancy-Kabylie (Grasset 2023), and in her award-winning film A Mansourah tu nous as séparés (2019). She will also present her recent work with the Museum of Fine Arts in Nancy on how to deal with statues celebrating the colonial conquest of Algeria in France.
A 20 minute talk in French will be followed by a Q&A in English.
