Nichola Clark, senior officer at the Pew Charitable Trusts, will present her talk, “The New High Seas Treaty: what’s in it, how we got there, and what’s next,” as part of the new ECo Talks series produced by the Earth Commons.
About the Speaker: Nichola A. Clark is an international ocean governance expert who specializes in high seas marine protected areas. She serves as a senior officer at the Pew Charitable Trusts, where she leads Pew’s high seas research and policy engagement. Nichola also leads the High Seas Alliance’s Marine Protected Area working group and co-chairs the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas High Seas Specialist Group. She is a member of the 6th cohort of Homeward Bound, a global leadership initiative for women in STEMM.
About the Talk: This seminar will do a deep dive into the new High Seas Treaty, which was adopted earlier this year by the United Nations after over a decade of negotiations. More specifically, this seminar will provide an insiders perspective on the treaty negotiations, the key issues debated and how they were resolved, and a preview on what’s next.
