STANDAERT LECTURE: Dr. Paul Kenny
Cellular Mechanisms of Nicotine Craving
Dr. Paul Kenny is the Ward-Coleman Professor and Chair of the Nash Family Department of Neuroscience at the Icahn Schools of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. Dr. Kenny also serves as Director of the Drug Discovery Institute at Mount Sinai. He received a degree in biochemistry from Trinity College Dublin and his Ph.D. in neuropharmacology from King’s College London. Research in Dr. Kenny’s laboratory is focused on the molecular and cellular neurobiology of drug addiction, obesity, and schizophrenia. Dr. Kenny is a co-founder of Eolas Therapeutics, which develops small molecule therapeutic agents for the treatment of brain disorders. Dr. Kenny served as a handling and senior editor for The Journal of Neuroscience. He was a member of the Advisory Councils of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA). He is a member of the National Institutes of Health Council of Councils (CoC) that reports directly to the NIH Director. Dr. Kenny is the recipient of numerous awards for his research, including the Annual Alton Ochsner Award from the Ochsner Health System, the Daniel H. Efron Research Award from ACNP, the Jacob P. Waletzky Memorial Award from the Society for Neuroscience and the Tom Connor Distinguished Investigator Award, Neuroscience Ireland, and a MERIT award from NIDA.
