Ukrainian Religious Actors and Organizations after Russia’s Invasion: The Struggle for Peace
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has had a profound impact on Ukrainian religious communities. In a new policy brief commissioned by the Transatlantic Policy Network on Religion and Diplomacy (TPNRD), Tetiana Kalenychenko and her co-author Denys Brylov analyze Ukraine’s religious context, the range of responses to the Russian invasion from across the spectrum of religious groups in the country, and the obstacles to and opportunities for Ukrainian religious contributions to peacebuilding. The brief concludes with recommendations for how governments and civil society organizations in the international community can engage with Ukrainian religious and non-religious actors to foster a constructive response to the war.
In this launch event, Kalenychenko will present the brief’s findings, analysis, and recommendations. Berkley Center Senior Fellow José Casanova will serve as a respondent. Peter Mandaville, a senior visiting expert at the U.S. Institute of Peace and Berkley Center senior research fellow, will moderate the discussion.
