Celebrating Latinx Heritage Month at Georgetown

The movement to celebrate the contributions of the Latin American community in the United States was introduced in 1968 and has since transformed into a nationally recognized, month-long commemoration of Latinx culture. From September 15th through October 15th, Latinx Heritage Month honors the vibrant histories, languages, traditions and values that transcend borders and unite Latinx people across the Americas and Caribbean islands.

This month is an opportunity to celebrate students, faculty, and staff as well as  teaching, research and scholarship connected to Latinx culture and heritage. On our campus we have countless groups dedicated to sharing diverse cultures and experiences.

La Casa Latina enters its sixth year and continues to serve as a centralized location for members of the Latinx community to share their narratives, access resources integral to success on the Hilltop and engage in vital discussions about the intersectionality of race, ethnicity, class, sexuality, gender, ability, privilege and power within our Latinx identities–pulling from the strength of those who came before and those who maintain the movement.

The Latinx student organizations, as well as supporting organizations, have come together as the Latinx Leadership Forum to provide a space that includes Latinx identities, that celebrates all members of the Latinx community and that, together, uses this month to build solidarity and find strength in intersecting identities.

Throughout the month there will be events to celebrate the diverse identities of this community. We invite you to check back regularly for event information, and hope that you will consider joining in the celebration of Latinx Heritage Month.
