Title: An Announcement Regarding Judd Nicholson, VP and CIO

Dear Colleagues,

I am writing to share that Judd Nicholson will be departing his position as Vice President and Chief Information Officer effective May 26 to serve as Executive Vice President and Chief Digital Officer at WMATA. We are incredibly grateful to Judd for his contributions to Georgetown over the last 11 years, and wish him the best as he now helps support public transportation in the Washington metropolitan region.

Judd has overseen tremendous development of our IT infrastructure, brought cutting-edge technology and software to bear in support of our teaching, research and administrative needs and streamlined services to address challenges and issues as they arise.

Under his direction, Georgetown was the first university to implement an integrated student experience, faculty portal and philanthropy system in Salesforce and the first to leverage Google Cloud Platform (GCP) for high-performance computing for our research community. Additionally, Georgetown was the first university to adopt Workday, a software-as-a-service enterprise resource planning system, which we now know as Georgetown Management System (GMS).

I am particularly grateful to Judd for his leadership during the pandemic, when technology went from being a tool for our teaching and student-service mission to being a primary resource by which we met our mission. Georgetown’s IT infrastructure was fully operational within 24 hours of the COVID-19 stay-at-home orders, enabling teaching, research and business operations to continue with minimal disruption.

With Judd’s upcoming departure, I have asked Doug Little, Associate Vice President for Enterprise Systems, to serve as interim Chief Information Officer. I look forward to working with Doug while we conduct a search for our next Chief Information Officer.

Please join me in thanking Judd for his service to University Information Services, the Georgetown community and our university mission.

Sincerely,

David B. Green
Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
