Title: Announcing Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) and Opportunities

Dear Georgetown University Community,

We are excited to announce the launch of a formal Employee Resource Groups (ERG) program, to be managed and supported by the Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Affirmative Action (IDEAA) and the Department of Human Resources (HR).

The ERG program was formed at the thoughtful recommendation of the Staff/AAP Advisory Council’s (SAAC) Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Task Force and request of several employee communities.

Definition and Purpose

ERGs are voluntary, employee-led groups that bring together employees who share common interests, backgrounds and goals. They must be consistent with Georgetown’s core values as a Catholic and Jesuit university, contribute to the professional and personal growth of their group members and advance the university’s mission. ERGs are an integral component of Georgetown University’s commitment to promoting and sustaining an inclusive campus climate and diverse workforce.

University-Provided Resources

ERGs approved by IDEAA and HR will be eligible to access certain university resources, such as financial support, administrative support, meeting space and training.

Criteria and Procedures

Groups seeking to form an ERG must 1) have a designated senior leader-liaison; 2) have at least five-current employees expressing interest in membership 3); have a mission that aligns with the university’s mission and core values as a Catholic and Jesuit university; 4) complete a proposal application and draft ERG charter.

Details on criteria, the application process and a template charter can all be found on the new Employee Resource Group website.

Please contact ideaa@georgetown.edu with any questions or interest about the program, process and policies.

We recognize and are grateful that many faculty and staff have long been involved in community-building, mutual support and common service to the university, and we look forward to formally supporting those efforts through the ERG program.

Sincerely,

Rosemary E. Kilkenny, JD
Vice President for Institutional Diversity and Equity
