Title: Decades of Service Honored at Spring Faculty Convocation

Georgetown recognized nearly 40 faculty members and academic professionals for their 20 years of service to the university during this year’s Spring Faculty Convocation.

Renowned legal scholar Peter Edelman, the Carmack Waterhouse Professor of Law and Public Policy, delivered the annual Life of Learning address during the March event in Gaston Hall.

“I think I learn more consciously now, both in order to connect with students and to reflect in my writing both about the past and what I would do going forward,” said Edelman who has taught and served as a scholar at Georgetown for 37 years. “But I always try to make a difference as often as I can, bending the arc toward justice. It’s in my teaching, in my writing and in action outside the Law Center and in it.”

Edelman, also faculty director of the Center on Poverty and Inequality at Georgetown, has written extensively on poverty, constitutional law and issues related to children and youth.

“Nothing means as much to me as my teaching, guiding young people who are headed for being public-interest lawyers, especially ones who want to do things that will reduce poverty in our country, which includes racial justice, economic justice and social justice,” he added.
