Uwe Brandes
, associate professor of the practice in urban and regional planning, has over 20 years of experience in the planning, design and construction of new buildings, public infrastructure and the urban landscape. He is the founding executive director of the urban and regional planning master’s program in the School of Continuing Studies.

Peter Byrne
is the John Hampton BaumgartnerJr. Professor of Real Property Law at Georgetown. Ricardo Ernst
, professor of operations at the McDonough School of Business, researches economic competitiveness in Latin America. He serves as managing director of the university’s Latin American Board, and edits a global journal on Latin American Competitiveness and Governability. As director of the Global Business Initiative, he oversees the school’s efforts to create a global education for all business students.

Michael Ferreira, associate professor or Spanish and Portuguese, who was raised in Rio de Janeiro, has edited and transcribed several old and early Portuguese texts, and serves as director of the Dictionaryof the Old Portuguese Language Project. In the classroom, he specializes in the application of computer techniques to philology, having taught workshops in Portugal and Brazil on paleography, electronic transcription of Old Portuguese texts, as well as computer-based lexicography techniques.

Bobby Goldwater
, adjunct instructor of sports industry management at the School of Continuing Studies, has a distinguished career in the sports entertainment industry in New York, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.He has served as president and executive director of the D.C. Sports and Entertainment Commission with the primary responsibility of leading Washington’s efforts to bring Montreal Expos – now the Washington Nationals – to the District of Columbia.

, associate professor of marketing at the McDonough School of Business, is a consumer psychologist. Malaviya examines how consumers use information to make product judgments and consumption decisions. He also is senior associate dean for MBA programs.

Bryan McCann
, professor of history, teaches courses on Colonial and Modern Latin America, particularly Brazil. He has published works on a wide range of topics in modern Brazilian history. Robin Dillon-Merrill
, professor of operations at the McDonough School of Business, has conducted research on how and why people make decisions t under conditions of uncertainty and risk. This research specifically examines critical decisions that people have made following near-miss events in situations with severe outcomes including hurricane evacuation; terrorism, cybersecurity and NASA mission management.

James P. Moore Jr.
, managing director of the Business, Society and Public Policy Initiative at the McDonough School of Business, served as principal deputy assistant secretary of commerce for international affairs before joining Georgetown, He was responsible for negotiating a series of trade and economic agreements for the United States with Japan, China, Brazil and South Korea, among other countries. Moore also was one of the chief negotiators in launching the Uruguay Round of International Trade Negotiations, which led to the creation of the World Trade Organization.

Lawrence Gostin
, the Linda D. and Timothy J. O’Neill Professor of Global Health Law, is the director of the World Health Organization Collaborating Center on Public Health Law and Human Rights. The WHO director-general has appointed the professor to several high-level positions that include the International Health Regulations Roster of Experts and the Expert Advisory Panel on Mental Health. Gostin, also faculty director of Georgetown’s O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law, has served on the WHO director-general’s Advisory Committee on Reforming the World Health Organization, as well as numerous WHO expert advisory committees on Pandemic Influenza Preparedness Framework, smallpox and genomic sequencing data.

Maggie Little
,associateprofessor of philosophy and director of Georgetown’s Kennedy Institute of Ethics,researchesissues in reproduction, clinical research ethics and the structure ofmoraltheory. Little has twice served as Visiting Scholar-in-Residence at the National Institutes of Health’ Department ofBioethics,and was appointed to the ethics committee of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is co-founderof The Second Wave Initiative, which works to promote responsible research into the health needs of pregnant women.

Kupersmith says barriers that may seem trivial to non-performers can interfere tremendously with a performance or competition. Performance-related obstacles include paralyzing anxiety, eating disorders or career-ending injuries.

is a professor of medicine at the School of Medicine and chief of cardiology at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. Joseph Verbalis
, an internist,is chief of endocrinology and metabolism in the department of medicine at the School of Medicine, and directs the Georgetown-Howard Universities Center for Clinical and Translational Science. Verbalis is an expert on exercise-associated hyponatremia EACH, or water intoxication, which can cause death during endurance events. He also is part of an expert group charged with understanding the biological basis of EAH to reduce athletes’ risk of death.
