Title: Four Georgetown Students and Alum among 2013 Pickering Fellows
Four Georgetown students and a recent alumnus from the School of Foreign Service (SFS) are among this year’s 40 Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellows.
The Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowships are named afterThomas R. Pickering, the former U.S. ambassador to Nigeria, El Salvador, Israel, India and Russia.
Undergraduate fellows Sophia Berhie (SFS’14), Ana De La Cruz (SFS’14), Nursultan Eldosov (SFS’14) and Connor Myers (SFS’14) will receive financial support toward tuition and expenses during their senior year.
Emmett Sapp (SFS’10), a Pickering graduate foreign affairs fellow, will receive financial support for his upcoming graduate studies at Princeton University.
Berhie, De La Cruz and Eldosov – all international politics majors – and Myers, an international political economy major, are part of the 20th class of Pickering undergraduate fellows.
“I am very pleased for the students who have won the Pickering Fellowships,” said SFS Dean Carol Lancaster. “They have worked hard, have achieved a lot and have made me very proud of them.”
Both undergraduate and graduate Pickering fellows will participate in one domestic and one overseas internship, and the four undergraduates will also receive financial support during their first year of graduate study.
After completing their master’s degree, the students will commit to serve three years as a U.S. Foreign Service officer.
The U.S. Department of State and Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation fund and administer the fellowship program, which is named after the former U.S. ambassador to Nigeria, El Salvador, Israel, India and Russia.
