Beginning in 2022, the program will recruit up to 25 first-year and sophomore Georgetown students from any school or major for fully funded leadership and research programs.
“Joining the Laidlaw Scholars Network provides our students an excellent opportunity to work on real-world projects that advance the common good,” says Vice Provost for Education Rohan Williamson. “With an emphasis on academic rigor and expert mentorship, the program will help Georgetown’s Laidlaw Scholars sharpen their leadership and research skills as they take on the world’s most pressing challenges.”
As Laidlaw Scholars, students will experience an immersive group leadership program to help identify their core leadership attributes and values. Throughout the program, scholars will develop their research and leadership skills working with guest speakers and coaches.
Students will complete investigative and data-based research projects over six weeks in their first summer under the supervision of a world-class academic advisor.
Over six weeks in their second summer, Laidlaw Scholars will put their leadership and research into action by leading a change project based on their research findings or by providing support to a local organization in a developing country in partnership with fellow Laidlaw Scholars from other leading global universities.

Upon completion of the program, students join a global network of over 1,000 dedicated future leaders with whom they will continue to partner on change-oriented projects, thought leadership and career development.
