Dear Members of the Georgetown University Community,
I write to offer my sincere appreciation to our colleague, Rabbi Daniel Schaefer, who will be departing Georgetown at the end of the academic year to become the rabbi of his hometown synagogue, Mishkan Israel in Hamden, Connecticut.
Rabbi Daniel joined the Georgetown University community as the Interim Director for Jewish Life in August of 2022. Since then he has become an indelible part of our community. Working with his colleagues in the Office of Jewish Life, Deborah Silver and Noam Kara, Rabbi Daniel has strengthened and supported our Jewish community in countless ways. He has fostered a welcoming, dynamic, and supportive Jewish presence at Georgetown through one-on-one rabbinic counseling, and leading Shabbat and High Holiday services throughout the year. He has deepened and fostered our interfaith work as a community in diversity in Campus Ministry.
I am immensely grateful for Rabbi Daniel’s contributions to Georgetown’s vibrant Jewish Community and his work throughout our university. Rabbi Daniel will continue through the end of the semester while we launch a search for a new rabbi for Jewish Life.
Please join me in sharing thanks and appreciation to Rabbi Daniel. We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.
Sincerely,
Fr. Mark Bosco, S.J., Ph.D.
Vice President for Mission & Ministry
