Title: Interim Dean for School of Continuing Studies Named
Georgetown President John J. DeGioia has announced the appointment of Walter Rankin as interim dean for the School of Continuing Studies (SCS), beginning July 1.

Georgetown President John J. DeGioia has announced the appointment of Walter Rankin as interim dean for the School of Continuing Studies (SCS), beginning July 1.
An SCS senior associate dean of academic affairs and compliance, Rankin has also served as associate dean for academic affairs and as an adjunct associate professor of liberal studies.
Rankin will replace Rob Manuel, associate provost and dean of SCS, who will become president of the University of Indianapolis next month.
“We remaindeeplygrateful for Rob’s remarkable leadership and service to Georgetownover the past seven years,” said DeGioia in a letter to the university community.“Walter has worked closely with Rob in the School of Continuing Studies for more than four years.”
Rankin has been responsible for managing all certification and accreditation-related activities at the school, as well as faculty hiring and review. He most recently served on the Middle States Steering Committee and was one of the leaders of the effort to document compliance with key accreditation standards.
Prior to coming to Georgetown, Rankin worked for more than 10 years at George Mason University, where he served for seven years as deputy associate dean for undergraduate academic affairs.
The president also appointed James Parenti as chief administrative officer for SCS during the interim period. Parenti’s new role is in addition to his current post as senior associate dean.
Parenti will be responsible for coordinating building management and corporate and community relations as well as assist with the management of the school’s business affairs.
A part of SCS leadership since 2008, Parenti served in senior positions at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development before joining Georgetown.
“I know Walter and Jim will provide the outstanding leadership during this time of transition for SCS,” DeGioia said. “I want to express my sincere appreciation to them for taking on these important responsibilities.”
