Title: “It Is My Privilege And Joy To Be Your Mother, Jennifer M.”

All the loving and encouraging words that Hoya Alums are saying to you right now, they are true. Believe them. We are forever family. We applaud your accomplishments and are heartbroken that your last Spring on campus was not what it could have been. We are not surprised yet still inspired by the spirit and strength and fun with which you finished out your last semester.

I know you will have both laughter and sadness on your road ahead, and I also know that you can accept and handle both with thanks and grace. You are linked to your classmates by the incredible four years you spent together, and are part of a larger dynasty bound together by the shared memories and traditions of Georgetown. Remember that your Hoya family is there for you, ready to be helpful whenever we can be, and always, ALWAYS cheering you on, celebrating your success. Just as I screamed Hoya cheers at your Convocation in 2016, I will be there to shout them louder at your Commencement ceremony.

Thank you to the members of the posse whom I have met: Matthew, Brenna, Lizzie, Maggie, Claudia, Camille and Kristin, for being tremendous friends to my Jennifer. I wish you all a lifetime of friendship, wherever you may go.

To my own precious Hoya, there are not enough words. Your courage and determination as you battled through the heartbreaks and embraced the good times over the last four years are lessons and reminders to me. It is my absolute privilege and joy to be your mother. Hoya Saxa, Class of 2020! Always remember the Hilltop. And Go Be the Light.

With All the Love in the World, Terry D.  I’90, P’20
