The United States recognizes National Hispanic Heritage Month from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15, honoring the vibrant histories, languages, traditions and values that transcend borders and unite Latine people across the Americas and Caribbean islands. The theme for 2024 is “Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together.”
The movement to celebrate the contributions of the Latin American and Hispanic community in the United States was introduced in 1968 and has since transformed into a nationally recognized, month-long commemoration of Latine and Hispanic culture. This month is an opportunity to celebrate our students, faculty, staff and the larger Georgetown community, as we both teach and actively learn about the shared and distinctive aspects of Latine and Hispanic cultures, histories and heritage.
We invite you to join us in celebrating Latine culture and Hispanic heritage at Georgetown and engage with both university and local DC events and opportunities to commemorate the month.
In addition to the numerous contributions of our faculty to Latine-connected scholarship, Georgetown is home to a number of related programs, including the Center for Latin American Studies and Georgetown Americas Institute. The Georgetown Americas Institute is a platform for dialogue, research and impact around the key challenges facing Latin America and the hemisphere. You can listen to their daily podcast on current events around the world here.
Check back regularly for new stories and events and we hope that you will join in the celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month at Georgetown.
