The Georgetown University Hotel in the Leavey Center, which opened nearly 40 years ago, has served different purposes over its lifetime, from housing students during the pandemic to hosting board meetings.
This summer though, it’s returning to its original roots: a hotel designed to host families and visitors of Georgetown — with a new design approach.

In collaboration with Crestline Hotels and Resorts, the new manager of the hotel, the university will weave in innovative and traditional iconic Georgetown elements to reestablish the facility as a modern hotel. The renovation will include new furniture and lighting elements, a reworked dining menu and room naming conventions, and designs that point to Georgetown’s rich history and mission.
The five-story hotel will feature 146 modern guest rooms, 13,000 square feet of meeting and event space for conferences, academic gatherings and social events, and an open-concept lobby with natural lighting from floor-to-ceiling windows.
The hotel will also include a transformed restaurant and bar, serving as a space for guests to gather over a meal or coffee in the early mornings.

Construction will begin in fall 2025 with an anticipated opening in summer 2026.
The Leavey Hotel first opened its doors in 1988 to parents of Hoyas, university visitors and patients of MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.

Since then, the hotel has hosted Georgetown directors during board meetings at the Leavey Conference Center and welcomed parents during Family Weekend and commencement. In 2020 and 2021, the hotel was used to support student quarantine during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Currently, students live in the hotel, which has been converted into temporary housing while Georgetown redevelops the former Henle Village.
“I am looking forward to Hoya families and community members having the opportunity to experience all that we have to offer, right here on the Hilltop Campus,” said Dave Green, senior vice president and chief operating officer at Georgetown.
