Georgetown’s Global Engagement website highlights the university’s engagement across 135 countries in more than 20 global issues, including human rights and interreligious dialogue.
NOVEMBER 24, 2014GEORGETOWN HAS LAUNCHED Anew website that details its engagement in more than 20 global issues around the world, including human rights, peace and security, and interreligious dialogue.
TheGlobal Engagement websitealso includes an interactive map that shows Georgetown’s activity across 135 countries, lists global academic offerings and study-abroad venues, and offers videos and articles about Georgetown’s international research and other initiatives.
“This innovative new website highlights the many strengths that make us a truly global university – our academic excellence, international reach, Washington, D.C., location, and Catholic and Jesuit identity,” says Thomas Banchoff, whom Georgetown President John J. DeGioia appointed in 2013 as the university’s first vice president for global engagement.
GLOBAL REACH
The university has ties all over the globe.
Students, faculty and university leaders, who represent more than 120 nationalities, regularly conduct research on global issues, bring world leaders to campus and contribute to dialogue on current affairs.
Numerousstudy-abroadprograms, international community-based learning opportunities and social justice outreach are available through the university, which collaborates with more than 250 institutions in over 40 countries.
“What does it mean to be a global university?” President John J. DeGioia asks in avideoon the new website. “Georgetown University has been engaging this question, living this question, as we reimagine our mission for the present day.”
AN ENGAGING WEBSITE
Visitors to the site can conduct searches by region, country and topic as well as explore faculty expertise, study-abroad options, and partner organizations abroad.
The interactive database that powers the site includes more than 2,000 activities, programs and people.
“Each of Georgetown’s nine schools hosts an impressive array of international activities. For the first time, they are all accessible in a centralized, searchable portal,” Banchoff says. “The goal is to send visitors from the Global site to school, center, and program websites for additional information on each global activity.”
