Four of the world’s leading voices on nuclear security gather at Georgetown for a panel discussion on nuclear security.
MARCH 17, 2015–U.S. REP. JEFF FORTENBERRY(R-Nebraska), a Georgetown alumnus who co-chairs the Congressional Nuclear Security Caucus, was joined by three of the world’s leading voices on nuclear security for a panel discussion at the university last night.
Sponsored by the Center for Security Studies and the Georgetown International Relations Club, “Managing and Reducing 21st Century Nuclear Security Threats” took place at the Bunn ICC Auditorium at 7 p.m., with a reception beforehand.
Joining Fortenberry on the panel were former Sen. Sam Nunn (D-Georgia), co-chairman and CEO for the Nuclear Threat Initiative; former Sen. Richard Lugar (R-Indiana), president of the Lugar Center; and Des Browne, former United Kingdom Defense Minister and vice chairman for the Nuclear Threat Initiative.
Fortenberry received his master’s degree in public policy from the university in 1986.
Keir Lieber, an associate professor of government in Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service, offered opening remarks.
Duyeon Kim, an associate in the Nuclear Policy Program and Asia Program at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and 2010 graduate of Georgetown’s Master of Science in Foreign Service program, moderated the panel.
