Title: Remembering Ishil Yaqub Khan, Student at Georgetown University in Qatar

Dear fellow members of the Georgetown University in Qatar community,

With a very heavy heart, I write to share the sad news that, early this morning, we lost our Hoya daughter Ishil Yaqub Khan. Ishil’s passing comes as a tragic shock to all of us. Our deepest condolences go to her family, her friends, and every member of the GU-Q community.

Our hearts are broken. At GU-Q, we are indeed one family and at moments like this, we take care of each other.

I want you to know that we are in touch with Ishil’s parents, and we are making every resource available to them at this difficult time. We are also reaching out to members of our close-knit community who lived, worked, and studied alongside Ishil.

I encourage students to connect with the Student Wellness and Counseling Center, via phone at +974 5503 9044, or via email at guqstudentwellness@georgetown.edu.

Faculty and staff may seek support via the International Employee Assistance Program (IEAP). Members of the GU-Q Human Resources team are also available to facilitate connections to other resources for support. Please stop by HR or contact Gosia Ledwon at ml1736@georgetown.edu or Nicole Heinz at nlh33@georgetown.edu.

We will gather today at 2:00 p.m. in the GU-Q auditorium to support each other.  Please join us in keeping her family, friends, and all those affected by this tragedy, in your thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,

Safwan Masri
Dean
