Title: Safety & Transportation Resources for 55 H St. NW Residents

Dear 55 H St. NW Residents,

As we enter the colder and darker winter season, and based on resident feedback, we would like to share an overview of existing and new resources for safely and comfortably navigating to and from 55 H St. NW. We are pleased to share that, beginning next week, we will be offering a new SafeShuttle service in the local area.

In addition, we have been working directly with local property managers and retailers on our block such as Walmart, as well as the Georgetown University Police Department (GUPD) and the Metropolitan Police Department, to enhance coordination of our efforts.

SafeShuttle Service (New)

As of Wednesday, November 2, the University will operate a SafeShuttle available on request daily from 10 a.m. – 10:30 p.m. for transportation in the vicinity of 55 H St. NW, including to and from Walmart, the Law Center, 500 1st St. NW, 111 Mass Ave. NW, and Union Station. To request a SafeShuttle ride, contact the 55 H St. NW front desk staff at 202-687-0937.

LiveSafe App

The LiveSafe App offers a variety of free, app-based safety resources to students. “SafeWalks” allows you to share your location with a friend or roomate when you leave a location and stay in constant communication while you walk to your destination. If you run into any issues, you can contact police from within the app. You can also anonymously reach GUPD to submit information about suspicious activity, harassment or any other safety issues you may experience.

Sgt. Pearson from GUPD will be available on Wednesday, November 2 from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. in the 55 H St. NW 1st Floor Lobby to provide a brief overview on using the LiveSafe app and safety resources available to residents. Drop by to get your LiveSafe app set up and ready to use!

Resources and Contacts

We encourage you to review a list of best practices for staying safe and secure at Georgetown. The Office of Residential Living will be coordinating a monthly series of GUPD tabling at 55 H St. NW where you can drop by with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Jeanne F. Lord, Ed.D.
