If you and your roommates will not be on campus over spring break, please

take the following steps to appropriately prepare your space while you’re away:

  1. Prevent pest and rodent issues by taking out all trash and recycling, putting all food in airtight containers, wiping down surfaces and sweeping/vacuuming.
  2. Clean personal refrigerators and dispose of perishable food that may spoil.
  3. Turn the heater in your space to medium temperature or 60°.
  4. Unplug all electronic devices.
  5. Take all valuable and necessary items with you, such as your passport, photo ID, cash, medications, laptops, etc.
  6. Turn off all lights.
  7. Close and lock all windows and doors, including the deadbolt on the primary entrance to your space.

55H students should contact the front desk between the hours of 8:30 a.m.-10 p.m. for access issues. After 10 p.m., students should call the Resident Fellow on duty at 2o2-687-0937 if they have access issues.

Public Health Reminders

  • Flu season persists across the country. It’s not too late to get your flu shot. If you become sick with the flu, COVID-19, or another common respiratory virus, follow the CDC guidance to care for yourself and protect others. While H5 bird flu has been identified in wild birds globally, as well in poultry and dairy cows in the U.S., there have been very few human cases thus far in the U.S. with no evidence of person-to-person transmission. CDC recommends avoiding contact with dead birds and sick animals. If you become unwell with a respiratory illness following exposure to animals or raw milk ingestion, it is important to relay the exposure to the clinician taking care of you for appropriate testing and treatment.
  • If you are traveling internationally, please review the CDC website for your destination to check for any health advisories so that you can take the appropriate precautions.
  • Before you depart, the Student Health Center also offers Travel Health visits online or in person so that a provider can review your records and offer you any vaccinations or prophylactic medicines as needed. If upon your return you develop any concerning symptoms, particularly a fever, please make an appointment with the Student Health Center by calling 202-687-2200.

Safety Information

In the case of an emergency, contact the Georgetown University Police Department (GUPD) at 202-687-4343 or the Capitol Campus Department of Public Safety (DPS) at (202) 662-9325. If off campus, contact 911.
