Title: Staff Treated to Breakfast, Speeches on Administrative Professionals Day
Georgetown celebrated Administrative Professionals Day with its annual breakfast in honor of the more than 400 administrative professionals working at the university.
The Department of Human Resources sponsored the breakfast that featured guest speakers and a raffle with prizes donated by university vendors that ranged from round-trip tickets for two in the continental United States and travel upgrades to $25 gift certificates.
“Administrative professionals really are the backbone of our offices, said Mary Anne Mahin, vice president and chief human resources officer. They take care of all those details that we don’t think about. We really can’t get it done without them.”
Johanna Lund, president of the Georgetown chapter’s International Association of Administrative Professionals, and Mary Thomas Newsom, owner and president of educational consulting firm Systems III, spoke to university employees about their contributions to the office.
Newsom, who also works as an instructor in Georgetown’s professional development and training program, had the nearly 150 participants stand and recite affirmations about the work they do.
“She talked about admins being the pulse of the office,” said Coral Harris, senior human resources generalist and an event coordinator.
Mary Hawkins, information specialist in the Office of Advancement, has worked at the university for about 16 years and said she looks forward to the breakfast.
“It makes you feel better about the work you do,” she said. It’s always good to feel appreciated.”
