Title: Upcoming Cooper Field Turf Replacement & Utilities Work Impacts

Dear Members of the Georgetown University Community,

Starting Monday, November 28, the university will be undertaking an important construction project to simultaneously renovate the turf on Cooper Field and to modernize the steam pipe utilities serving Main Campus that run underneath the south end of the field.

This effort will provide significant benefits for our athletics and club sports programs, as well as improve the energy efficiency of our utilities. Please take note of several expected impacts from this project:

Noise Impacts

The first stage of the project (November 29 – December 6) will involve construction work from 7 a.m.-11 p.m. with expected noise from trucks, construction vehicles and steam pipe removal/replacement. There will be noise monitoring and reduction efforts in place, but loud construction work is to be expected.

Work will continue with restricted hours during study days and the final exam period (December 7 – December 17), with reduced work hours of 10 a.m.-6  p.m.

Vehicular and Pedestrian Traffic Impacts

  • Tondorf Road: Tondorf Road will be reduced to a single lane of vehicular traffic, managed by flaggers, from December 19 – early January. There will be a single sidewalk section open on the west or east side of Tondorf Road depending on the project stage.
  • North Road: North Road will be reduced to a single lane of vehicular traffic, managed by flaggers, for two days in mid-January. The Southwest Quad Garage’s North Road entrance/exit will remain open. The south sidewalk along Kennedy Hall will remain open.
