Dear Members of the Georgetown Community,
Please be aware that from 12 – 3 p.m. this Thursday, March 24 the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) will be coordinating an emergency preparedness exercise on Main Campus simulating the response to a severe weather event.
- The simulation will take place at McDonough Arena and the GUTS bus loop (see map below).
- The simulation will include emergency response vehicles and intends to be as realistic as possible for training purposes – please do not be alarmed or concerned about activity in this area during that time.
- There is not expected to be any impact to traffic at the Canal Road entrance or GUTS bus loop, and there will be no impact to GUTS service or traffic elsewhere on campus.
This simulation, called “Hoya Storm,” will engage a wide range of Georgetown University departments and administrative units, local emergency response partners, and student, faculty and staff volunteers. While the university is always assessing and preparing for emergencies on our campuses, we periodically conduct exercises such as Hoya Storm to test our emergency preparedness and response procedures.
Every member of the Georgetown community can play a role in preparing for, and responding to, an emergency. Please consider taking the following actions:
- Opt-in to receive HOYAlerts via SMS text messaging, the fastest way the university can be in touch with you in case of emergency.
- Follow the HOYAlert Twitter account as another way to receive emergency alerts and updates.
- Download the LiveSafe app, which contains emergency management procedures.
- Visit the Office of Emergency Management website, which has additional information and resources on how to be prepared for a variety of emergencies.
Thank you to the many members of our community who will be giving their time to participate in Hoya Storm next Thursday to keep Georgetown prepared and safe.
Marc Barbiere
Director, Office of Emergency Management
