Title: Update on Undergraduate Aid

Dear Student,

I am writing with an update on your eligibility for need-based financial aid. As you know, Georgetown is one of just a few institutions of higher education across the country that has announced plans to reduce tuition for Fall 2020. While the financial aid packages we released on July 31 reflect this 10 percent reduction in your cost of attendance, we are taking additional steps to support students and their families at this unprecedented time.

The 10 percent tuition reduction we have announced amounts to $2,900. To ensure that all students and families receive the full benefit of this 10 percent reduction, we are planning to post a tuition credit for Fall 2020, up to a maximum of $2,900 to the accounts of students whose parent contribution for tuition is $2,900 or more. Students and families with less than a $2,900 parent contribution will receive a credit equal to their expected parent contribution. The tuition credit will be noted on your account and billing statement, once tuition is charged and bills are issued.

In addition, upon request, we will review financial aid packages to offer waivers to the expected summer savings from work, and adjust aid where students have not been able to find work over the summer. A simple process for making those requests will be available soon on ourĀ change in financial circumstances web page.

As a reminder, at this same web page, students or families can ask for an additional review of their aid eligibility based on other changes at any time.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to work through the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on our University community. I recognize these are very difficult times and please know we deeply value all that you contribute to the Georgetown community.

Sincerely,

Patricia McWade
Dean of Student Financial Services
