Dear Members of the Georgetown Community,
As we continue with our virtual learning and working environment, I want to take this opportunity to remind you of the steps you can take to ensure that your Zoom classes and meetings are secure from unwanted or uninvited guests.
- Avoid posting the Zoom link publicly through social media or other channels and do not reuse your Personal Meeting ID (PMI)
- If you are teaching classes, use the Zoom link within Canvas
- Set a password for your classes or meeting
- Update Zoom to version 4.6.10 or higher, which adds important security and useful feature enhancements. Zoom will prompt you to download the update when there is no meeting in-progress. The update has key safety features for hosts within the new Security Button, including:
- Lock meeting
- Enable waiting room
- Disable participants from:
- Learn how to mute or remove any disruptive participant
- Report any Zoom disruptions to UIS
- Contact the Georgetown Zoom Team with any additional questions at zoom@georgetown.edu
UIS has also created a web page that is frequently updated with the latest information.
If you plan to host a large public seminar or meeting, please contact UIS at zoom@georgetown.edu in advance to ensure that your meeting is configured properly. For events with large audiences and outside participants, we recommend having one or more individuals serving as co-hosts to help monitor the event.
As we continue teaching and working in this virtual environment, maintaining privacy and security for all members of our community is critical.
